Fred Starr, MD, is a highly respected medical doctor, child psychiatrist, and computational neuroscientist with more than 30 years of experience in neurofeedback and Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology. He provides expert care to patients at Optimum Peak Wellness in Redmond, Washington.
Since 1990, Dr. Starr has been at the forefront of advancing evidence-based mental health care through innovative clinical and technological applications of neurofeedback.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology before completing his medical degree, followed by a residency in Adult Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Starr then served as Chief Fellow at Vanderbilt University’s Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from 2002 to 2004, where he specialized in anxiety disorders, play therapy, and early childhood trauma.
In 2003, Dr. Starr formally integrated neurofeedback into his clinical practice and has continued to expand its therapeutic potential ever since. In 2006, he pioneered Remote Neurofeedback, making advanced neurofeedback treatment accessible to patients regardless of location. His leadership and innovation in the field have earned him recognition as one of the Fifty Pioneers in Neurofeedback.
Further demonstrating his commitment to advancing neuroscience, Dr. Starr developed a novel system for collecting and analyzing EEG data, which earned him U.S. Patent No. 10,863,912 in December 2020. His work continues to shape the future of neurofeedback and quantitative EEG (QEEG) analysis.
